The role of foliar fertilizers

The role of foliar fertilizers

Foliar fertilizers are directly sprayed on the surface of crop leaves, absorbed by the leaves, and transport nutrients to various parts of the crop body. Spraying foliar fertilizer is a commonly used fertilization method in agricultural production. It has the characteristics of fast absorption, low dosage and good effect, and is widely used by farmers.

Why fertilize the surface of leaves

1. Supplement the lack of root fertilization

When it is inconvenient to fertilize the roots of crops, such as in the late stage of crop growth, the root vigor declines and the ability to absorb fertilizer is reduced; or when the soil environment is unfavorable for the growth of crops, such as excessive water, drought, soil too acid, and alkali, resulting in crop root system Obstructed absorption leads to premature senescence of crops. If the root application method cannot meet the needs of crops in time, only foliar spraying can quickly supplement nutrients and meet the needs of crop growth and development.

2. Quickly replenish nutrition

In the process of crop growth, crops have shown some nutrient deficiencies. Since it takes a certain period of time for nutrients to be absorbed by crops using soil fertilization, the deficiency symptoms of crops cannot be relieved in time. At this time, the use of foliar fertilization can enable nutrients to quickly enter the plant through the leaves and solve the problem of lack of nutrients.

3. Give full play to the fertilizer effect

Trace elements of certain fertilizers, such as phosphorus, iron, manganese, copper, zinc fertilizers, etc. If the root is fertilized, it is easily fixed by the soil and affects the application effect, but the use of foliar spraying will not be limited by soil conditions.

For another example, some fruit trees and other deep-rooted crops have relatively little absorption of some nutrient elements. If the traditional fertilization method is difficult to apply to the root absorption site, the fertilizer effect cannot be fully exerted, but foliar spraying can achieve better results.

4. An Affordable Choice

Various trace elements are essential nutrients in the process of crop growth and development, but the application amount is very small, such as molybdenum fertilizer, which is only a few grams per acre, and it is difficult to apply evenly if the root application method is used. Only by foliar spraying can it be economical and effective.

According to research and calculation, general crops spray boron fertilizer on the leaves, the utilization rate of boron is more than 8 times that of basal application. From the economic point of view, foliar spraying is more cost-effective than root spraying.

5. Reduce soil pollution

On salinized soils, soil fertilization may increase the concentration of soil solutions and aggravate soil salinization. Taking foliar fertilization measures not only saves the amount of fertilization, but also reduces the pollution of soil and water sources. It is an effective fertilization technology that kills two birds with one stone.
